HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SHIP FROM HONG KONG TO SINGAPORE?

Shipping from Hong Kong to Singapore would typically take up to 4 days by sea freight and about 24 hours by air freight. All cargoes are shipped in time to ensure that it arrives at the destination by the estimated date.

WHAT ARE THE TAXES INCLUDED IN THE SHIPMENT?

For exporting shipments out of Hong Kong, there are no customs tariffs involved.

However, importing into Singapore would require the payment of a Goods and Services Tax (GST) for all items and duties for dutiable goods. The current GST rate is 7% and it is calculated based on the customs value of all goods and the last selling price of the goods, including all duties.

Duties that are payable include the customs and excise duties, and these taxes are only imposed on dutiable goods. The 4 categories of dutiable goods are:

  • Intoxicating liquors
  • Tobacco products
  • Petroleum products
  • Biodiesel blends

Other factors that may affect the taxes include:

  • Value of cargo
  • Intended use of product
  • Estimated dimensions and weight

WHAT SHIPPING DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR CUSTOMS CLEARANCE?

Exporting from Hong Kong

CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN

This is to confirm that the shipment is entirely obtained or manufactured in Hong Kong, in order to expedite the exportation.

EXPORT DECLARATION

Within 14 days after the export of goods, you are required to fill in and submit a complete export declaration form to Hong Kong customs to provide all the relevant details regarding the shipment. This is to facilitate the inspection of documents to be carried out at the Hong Kong customs. Physical inspection will only be done randomly.

LICENCE (FOR CERTAIN GOODS)

Hong Kong’s Strategic Commodities Control System has listed some items (e.g. military equipment) that will require the exporting company to apply for a licence. However, based on the Transhipment Cargo Exemption Scheme, goods in transit are exempted from obtaining a licence if they stay in the transport vehicle during the entire shipment.

Importing into Singapore

CUSTOMS PERMIT

A customs permit is used to clarify the import and tax payments of the cargo. If your mode of shipment is by air or sea, a customs permit has to be submitted to the shipping or airline agent within 10 days of the import.

OTHER DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR CONTAINERISED CARGO, CONVENTIONAL CARGO & HAND-CARRIED GOODS.

  • Commercial invoice
  • Bills of lading or air waybill
  • Certificate of origin
  • Certificate of analysis
  • Certificate of insurance

Even after your cargo has been successfully shipped, it is essential for you and your Declaring Agent to keep all the relevant documents pertaining to the purchase, sale, import and export of your items for a minimum of 5 years from the date of the permit application approval.
